Game winning shot

It was what I worked hard for the entire season. It couldn’t have happened without the truth and respect of my teammates throughout the season. I played shooting guard for my high school basketball team. We were the average high school basketball team played around 15 games excluding the playoffs. The game that everyone is eager to watch, what we wait all season for, is playing First Colonial High School, our schools rival. I don’t know the history behind this rivalry, but what I do know, when it comes down to playing the game, it is a tough vicious game.

This year we played the game on our school territory, in our gym. The gym was packed with Falcon fans, with our mascot “The Falcon” pumping up the crowd. When it came to start the game, I would always do my pregame routine similar to Lebron James. The game was a vicious battle with hard fouls; even some technical fouls were thrown out. I remember at half time the game was tied 33- 33 and Coach Smith screamed at us saying we played like crap.

When it came to start the second half, the crowd was pumped up but we didn’t live up to the potential of the energy at first. When it came to start the 4^th quarter we were down by 7. My coach played me the entire 4^th quarter saying I was the only guy who was playing good. The Quarter was as tough as the entire game, with hard fouls. I could tell that First Colonial was running out of energy and with two minutes left my team was on fire. We were down by ten and caught up within 2 points with 10 seconds left. We had the ball at mid court and with our final timeout we drew up a play that gave me the ball in the corner shooting a three. The right corner was my favorite place to shoot on the court and I always have confidence of making the shot. With 5 seconds on the clock I was passed the ball, I gave a little pump fake and shot the ball in the defenders face and all I heard was “swish”. This moment was my favorite moment of high school.

“Senior Makes Game- Winning Shot against School Rival”

Virginia Beach- On the last Tuesday in November, what was an epic battle between rivals Cox High School vs. First Colonial high school, Senior Robert Mahgerefteh of Cox high school made the game winning 3- pointer sending players of First Colonial leave the gym in silence.

“Everyday this season I dreamed this day would happen” Senior Robert Mahgerefteh mention to reporters “I knew when I shot the ball it was in, that corner is my favorite shot on the court and I knew when coach drew up the play he had total confidence in me making that shot.”

The game was another epic vicious battle, with many hard fouls, between the two high school teams. Tied at half time it seemed like it was going to be a close finished, which it was. When the second half began First colonial came out shooting having the largest lead of the game, 7 points. When it came to the 4^th quarter you could tell Mr. Mahgerefteh was not going to let the school down. “it seemed like he knew they weren’t going to lose” mentioned a teammate of the senior “he always remains positive through tough times.”

With a lead of just 2 points with 10 seconds left, Cox high school called timeout. During this timeout coach Smith drew up a perfect play giving Mr. Mahgerefteh the ball in the corner of the court shooting a three. With a pump fake with 5 second left the senior shot the ball in the defenders face swishing the ball to win the game. “This is the best feeling in the world” said the senior.

Blogging....

In the article, “Blogs: All the noise that fits” by Michael Skube, Scube’s believes that bloggers are rapidly increasing and that blogs are based on opinion and not facts. He refers to the blogging world as “Blogosphere” and that it is the “loudest corner of the internet.” Bloggers are able to voice their opinion with no restrictions and are happy because it’s free. He also recognizes that bloggers are “becoming the watchdogs that watch the watchdogs” in a way that keeps the media honest since, bloggers have no reason to be dishonest, they just voice their opinion and have fewer “obligations” then the media. Scube’s gets annoyed about bloggers because they get the information out their but with out the facts and research journalist do.

In comparison between Michael Skube’s article and Andrew Sullivan’s article, they both recognize how blogging is increase and taking of the world. They recognize how bloggers are able to voice their opinion and provide information on a topic for free. Andrew Sullivan supports that blogging is “changing the media world” and can revolutionize how journalism is today. Michael Skube’s belives that blogs should not be based on opinion but, be based on facts and debate. He believes that if the information is going to be out there, it should be correct and not just based on opinion.

Even though blogging is changing how the world is, and how information gets noticed, the information on blog’s are not equaled to the information magazines or newspapers offer. I agree with Michael Skube’s article that blogs should be based on facts and not from opinion. Someone’s opinion might decide to leave in the information that they agree with and leave out the ones they disagree with. The newspaper and magazines are both based on all facts.

“The Church Point Idea”

In Virginia Beach, when you mention to someone that you live in Church Point, you always get an awkward response. To the majority of people, living in Church Point makes you a “spoiled brat.” They automatically think that by living in Church Point your family must be a Caucasian rich family. They also think that you must live in a big house, in a gated community, with your own pool, and an expensive car.









They believe that you get what ever you want, when you want and that you don’t have to work hard for anything you get, that your parents give you everything.

To others, when you live in Church Point your family is well respected. People know that you’re a hard working family, that nothing came easy.

Church Point is like a nice little community. Everybody knows who you and your family are. You are always well greeted and everyone is always helpful. There is a nice park inside the neighborhood, where you can play tennis, basketball, and baseball. And the schools are a block away.

To me, living in Church Point is so much fun, but not so easy. In school, I was one of the few teenagers who lived in Church Point. I was known as the guy with the “sick car.” I used to give rides to everyone and “show- off” my car. I threw parties at my house occasionally but mostly attended a lot of others. In a lot of people’s eyes I was the typical “Church Pointer.” I was the guy with the nice car, and the big house but, it was not that simple. I didn’t get what ever I wanted and do what ever I want. I worked hard for everything I got. I had to go to work everyday after school and usually didn’t get home till 8:00.

Every time I had free time, I used to chill in my neighborhood. We used to go to McDonald’s at 1a.m because we were all craving some French fries. There was always a Saturday night pool party, where we went jet skiing in the ocean. There was always a little kid’s baseball game where I was the head coach. When Halloween was a week away everybody gathered together to make a haunted house.

My favorite part of living in Church Point was, once a year, we gathered up everybody and went to Kings Dominion (similar to six flags) for a day. From when the park opens until it closed at night, we will spend the entire day losing feeling in our heads riding roller coasters. Kings Dominion has about 15 roller coasters and we always rode in the front row of all of them. They even have a water park, where we will spend about 2 to 3 hours in. On each ride would scream so loud that we usually lose our voices the next day. My brother and I would usually take a lot of pictures and we usually hide the camera on to the ride and video tape it. You would usually just hear us screaming and the camera would be all over the place.



Life might not be easy, but it is a lot of fun living in Church Point.
